Winter Holiday Shootout Series

The Vail Lake Racers and Chaser’s third and final race of Temecula, CA Winter Holiday Shootout Series was a three stage weekend event. It began Saturday afternoon with a Super D, followed by a Night Short Track on the go kart course under the lights. The final stage was a Sunday Cross-Country.

STAGE 1 SUPER D
To start off the weekend the Super D practice shuttles began noon Saturday. The reviews of the course where huge! Making the event even more epic was that Eric Carter showed up to race. It was Temecula’s largest Super D turnout, and even the Under-18 class was stacked. I was happy to see the kids--our future--represented so well. The race came all the way down to the wire between a four rider group; Eventual winner Eric Carter just squeezed out Brian Crooks at the line.

STAGE 2 SHORT TRACK
The Night Short Track was awesome! We rented light towers and the course was completely lit up. Ay-Up Lights was still on hand to provide demos to racers who wanted to try some extreme illumination.. Chuck Jenkins showed everyone how to take those berms and high speed corners like a true pro. By the end of the race he was half a lap up. Chuck finished with 15 laps. The bonfire was going and the music was pumpin’ and all of those that came out to watch had as much fun as the racers.

STAGE 3 CROSS-COUNTRY
Sunday morning was the Stage 3 Cross-Country and we were greeted with great weather and a large turnout. A mandatory Elite Loop for all Experts and Pros added difficulty and distance to their race. I rode the first circuit with eventually race winner Chuck Jenkins. We just couldn’t believe how perfect the course conditions were following the recent rains. Not long after I spotted a wild herd of cows. I immediately said chow to Chuck and peeled off after them. Fortunate for me I was packing heat…I needed some more leather for number plates!

POST RACE
After the Race we had a huge raffle and even gave away one complete Cannondale, a discount on an Intense, and a discount on an Ellsworth frame. Almost everyone walked away with something from the raffle and the awards. We once again handed out custom handmade leather trophies as we’ve been doing for the winners of the each individual event. Then the Winter Holiday Shootout Series Champion were awarded a special Bicycle Wheel Cow Bell Award.

Happy and confident: From the start Sport 30-39 winner Rob Styron (151) knew that he was going to take it--look at that smile! Photo by cchanphotography.com/racersandchasers
