Manuel Prado, the phenomenal Sho-Air XC racer from Costa Rica took a photo of Travis Brown's Trek Top Fuel as he was practicing for the Leadville 100. Brown's use of drop bars is not new--Wilderness Trail Bikes produced MTB-specific drops in the '80s that are still revered today. John Tomac raced cross country and even downhill with drops when he was moonlighting as a pro road racer with Team 7-Eleven. Brown may be on to something--Leadville is a dirt road race for the most part, so the comfort and aerodynamics may play to his advantage over the long race. Dual-suspension AND drop bars? We shall see.
