"A week is too long--can I just ride a few days?" "No." ell this year, for the first time, we've decided to say "yes" to both of those questions. We're proud to announce the launch of TR3, a three-day solo version of our famous epic that will debut this August. It will run concurrently with the first three days of TransRockies 2009 and will offer the same unmatched adventure, scenery and experience to riders who can't make a commitment to the full week of riding, or first-timers looking for a stepping stone to participation in the full epic.

Though shorter in length, the TR3 will still provide an epic backcountry test for riders with a planned routing that will take them from Panorama Mountain Village to Nipika Mountain Resort during the first two days and finish with a time-trial loop around the amazing Nipika trail system on Day 3. In 2008, these stages covered over 170km with the usual stiff dose of climbing necessary to traverse major passes in and out of the mighty Columbia River valley.

TR3 riders will receive full on-course support from the most professional and effective organization in the sport including detailed route book, fully-stocked feed stations, world-class medical and rescue support, and emergency mechanical assistance from our TR Ambassadors and sweep teams. Competing in three categories (Open Men, Open Women, Master 40+ Men), riders will be featured and rewarded in the nightly awards ceremonies and will have their own leaders' jerseys, and daily and overall prizes.
"Every year, we are asked about solo riders and shorter versions of the race, and this year we felt like we had a great opportunity to bring something new to the event," said Event Director Aaron McConnell. "The TR3 should add a highly competitive solo component to our event without compromising the spirit of teamwork and co-operation which is fundamental to the TransRockies experience."
While the TransRockies has always prided itself on delivering exceptional value-this year with pricing unchanged from 2008-the TR3 is built for value-conscious riders with a là carte pricing that starts at $499CDN (about $400 US) for early bird race entry. Add-on support options include meal and camping packages which will feature delicious menus from the best local chefs and the same gear, tent and hot shower package included in our 7-day packages.
The TransRockies remains unique among the mountain bike epics in the remoteness of the terrain and rawness of the experience. In 2009, TR3 will make this incredible adventure accessible to a broader range of riders than ever before.
