What a day to have a race! The conditions were perfect Saturday morning When the Racers and Chasers crew left the house to an awesome sunrise. Then we made the turn onto Highway 79 South and... wham, We were immediately hit with a 50mph-plus gust. It was a workout just fighting the steering wheel while trying to keep the 16 wheel mobile on the road.

 

At Vail Lake we realized that there was no way racers would be able to hold a line on any of the ridge top trails. It was so windy up on top that it was very difficult only to stand. With less than an hour to go we changed to a race course that could be ridden without being blown over. The best part of the new circuit was the long fire road stretch with a direct tailwind. There is nothing better than riding uphill at 20 mph while soft pedaling.

 

After that it was mostly busy (and windy) singletrack. To all of those who braved the 50mph gust, a huge congratulations goes out from the entire crew at Racers and Chasers.
