Alison Dunlap competed in two Olympic Games, won the Mountain Bike World Championships, the World Cup Overall, and the National Championships thirteen times. Basically, she dominated women’s cycling in multiple disciplines. She is also a USA Cycling Level II certified coach, has been coaching for eight years, and you can train with her for four days in the mountain bike heaven called Moab this fall.
Since 2003, Alison and her husband Greg, a former pro mountain bike/cyclocross racer and USAC Level lll certified coach, have been running a training camp twice a year in Moab with Rim Mountain Bike Tours. Each spring, they hold camps geared for beginners as well as intermediate riders. But in the fall, arguably the best season to ride in Moab, they offer only one camp, and it is for strong intermediate to advanced riders. So if you’ve got game, and you don’t mind being pampered in luxury between intense days of trail workouts, this may be for you. There are usually only 12 or so spots in a camp and registration is on a first come basis.
This fall’s training camp is Sept. 19-22 and is $1,868. Trainees will stay at the Rim Village condominiums where they will get two massages, hot tubs, and nightly training lectures. Rim Tours guides assist with training on the trails, ground transportation and double as chefs providing gourmet meals three times a day. They also give your bike a daily tune-up.
