Former Cal State Cross-Country Champion Mike Hecker used the fresh
Stump Grinder Winter Cross-Country as the lead up to the third race of the
2008 National Mountain Bike Series, the Santa Ynez NMBS presented by
Platinum Performance. The Stump Grinder Dirt Club (SGDC) sits next door to
Firestone Vineyards and only 5 miles from the former main event title
sponsor the Firestone Walker Brewery; both of which are in the beautiful
hills of the Santa Ynez Valley, which overlooks the seaside community of
Santa Barbara, California. That is home base for the omnipotent Platinum
Performance satellite team. Here is their report from the very first
scheduled team outing of 2008:
With over 20 riders, Platinum Performance was well represented at the Stump Grinder. The 11 mile loop included 1700 feet of climbing, fast winding descends, and three water crossings. It was a challenging one lap circuit for all beginner and 50+ sport's. The younger sport class and the expert's completed two laps, with the pro's turning three.
The best performances by Platinum names appear in the results in all capital letters. Runner-up amateur rides were put in by Junior Harrison Davis, Sport Women 19+ Amanda Schaper, Expert 45+ Ron Takeda, and Expert 19-44 Bob Nisbet. Platinum photog John Goodman was third best Sport 50+. Sport 19-34 John Ganon, Sport 50+ Mike Roberts and Expert 45+ Nick Davis all rode to fourth place performances. Following are the remainder of the Platinum Performance team rides: Sport Women 19+ Jayne Donen and Expert 19-44 Roger 007 Moore in fifth, Sport 35-49 Mark Fennell and Expert 45+ Steve Silva in sixth, Expert 45+ Mark Luke in seventh, Expert 45+ Steve Bertrand in eighth, and Sport 35-49 John Reveles in 13th.
