This amazing story starts with Maria Leijerstam, a 35 year old adventurer with the goal of being the first person to cycle to the South Pole. While her own website
is somewhat of a tease (wait for the TV show in January), Gizmag
reports that "On December 27th at 1am GMT, she achieved that goal, becoming the first person to ever successfully cycle from the edge of the Antarctic continent to the Pole."
Riding a White ICE Trike
with a claimed 100-pound load of gear for a total distance of 400 miles in snow, we remain excited yet a bit skeptical until seeing the documentary and reviewing the GPS data. That was a lot of weight, a lot of miles on a lot of snow. But, Maria may be one very accomplished cyclist. We will be sure to tune in.
