Long Term Follow-up: Enve Twenty9 XC Wheelset

It’s no secret that we fell in love last year. Our Enve Twenty9 XC Wheelset is an incredible trail slaying, race ready set of hoops that blew our socks off during our initial 3 month test period. Check out our five star review here. Now, over a year has passed since we first mounted these bad boys up and started putting some time on them. Do we still share the same enthusiasm with this product as we did on day one?

The short and simple answer is yes.  After over a year of hammering we are proud to say that these wheels have held up incredibly, no broken spokes and still running true. All of the statements from the initial test hold true. One thing we still simply can’t get over is the stiffness to weight ratio. Hammering uphill as expected these wheels climb incredibly and will likely shed some time off you favorite route. The stiffness on the descents is incredible, these wheels will carve up any trail with surgical precision. Furthermore the carbon hoops provide an incredible ride quality in terms of damping, the trail simply seems to melt away underneath the spinning big wheels. We put these wheels through a whole heap of abuse all along the west coast, from dry rocky dusty trails in Southern California to the lush rain forests of the Pacific Northwest. The wet harsh conditions of the PNW provided a great proving ground for testing bearing longevity, happy to say our DT Swiss hubs are spinning smooth, not a single issue. Aside from standard cleaning and checking wheel true the only maintenance we’ve done has been putting a small drop of lube inbetween where the spokes cross to mitigate a small creak that developed in muddy conditions. However if you keep your spoke surfaces clean you shouldn’t encounter any issue.

While over $2K is a lot to spend on wheels, you truly do get what you pay for. They have handled the abuses of racing and aggressive trail riding with flying colors. We are looking forward to many more great seasons on our Enve Twenty9 XC’s. These are still a five star product in our book.
