We met this young woman in January 2009 at Ray's MTB in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was there to compete in a pro mountain bike race for women only.
We had never heard of her before, but she was pretty fast. There was
another young woman there named Katharine Pendrel. They were
both from Canada. Katharine went on to win the UCI World Championship
a few years later. This young woman beat her at Ray's, though. She
also ended up doing well at some big races, too. Perhaps, you've heard
of her. Her name is Emily Batty. When she's not helping out on her family's
cattle farm, she races for Trek, and sometimes the Canadian Olympic Team,
too. Watch for her at the World Cup races this year. She's pretty fast.
