Canadian Ski Resort Hosted Transrockies Last Year
From: www.panoramaresort.com
On August 10th, 2008, Panorama will again host the start of the seventh annual
TransRockies Mountain Bike Challenge, attracting competitors from as far as
Zimbabwe, Singapore, and New Zealand. Close to 600 mountain bikers will
compete for top prizes, testing their skills and determination in some of
North America's most challenging terrain and weather.
In 2007, this strenuous seven day race through the beautiful wilderness of the Canadian Rockies boasted 553km of trail and 9788 vertical metres of climbing. This year promises to be the most epic yet, with new routing, significantly more singletrack, and longer stages.
After the race start at Panorama, each stage begins at 8:00 am, giving competitors a total of 10 hours to reach the finish line for the expected 6:00 pm deadline. Each day ends with an awards ceremony to honour daily champs, although team times are calculated at the end of the race to award the overall winners with $20,000 CAD in cash prizes.
To welcome athletes and celebrate the start of the TransRockies Challenge, Panorama will host a welcome ceremony on the Great Hall Deck, followed by live music by New Moon. Based out of Salmo, B.C., New Moon is a diverse group offering something for everyone's musical taste.
