The Super D event has struggled to find rider acceptance since its inception. While lots of riders talk about what needs to be done, Don Jackson, the race promoter of Southridge USA and Joe Lawwill, a Masters World Downhill Champion and Bikeskills instructor, are doing something about it.
The two have put new focus on Super D course design, picking up where Eric Carter left off last year. The courses have been extended to navigate two mountain tops with tons of sweet singletrack trails that will test riders of all abilities and strengths. The best news has to be that average runs now last between 8 and 12 minutes (not 3 minutes) and finish on the 4-Cross course.
The Super D is run downhill style with riders going one at a time, racing against the clock. There is no other event like the Super D where you can show up and ride (and be competitive on) the trailbike you ride on a regular basis. No need to have an expensive DH bike and wait in shuttle lines. Just ride to the top, do a couple practice runs then race!
It is recommended that riders use whatever bike they are most comfortable with. You can get a good day of riding in all in a short amount of time. Practice starts at 11:00 AM and the race starts at 12:30 P.M. with awards one hour after.

Joe Lawwill believes that Super D is the perfect format for riders who would never consider racing their mountain bikes. Getting the course right makes all the difference.
