Mitch Ropelato made history on Sunday, March 31, 2013, by winning the PRO GRT
downhill competition at Fontana, California, aboard a 29-inch cross-country bike.
Mitch raced in the event aboard a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Carbon 29er.
Mitch's teammate, Aaron Gwin, took second on a Specialized Demo 8 downhiller
with 26-inch wheels, while Logan Binggeli took third on a KHS 650b downhill bike.
The downhill competition was held at the same time as the men's and women's
short track events; Todd Wells and Lea Davison of Specialized won those events.
By the way, Mitch raced in the event with a water bottle in his bottle cage, too.
And for anyone who might be wondering, this is not an April Fool's joke. It's true.
