Cross-Country Marathon World Cup #2 was the final international event of 2008. It also marked the end of the weirdest mountain bike series. There were two events in the 2008 edition. The opening round was held back in March in Manavgat/Antalya, Turkey. It concluded 8 mounths later with this event in Ornans, France. The events are contested by an unusual mixture of superstars and unknown competitors who often ride for teams with strange names. In the France finale Hector Paez, the Columbian who won the ocean-to-ocean La Ruta ultra-marathon race took overall honors. Pia Sundstedt was the defending two-time champion heading into Ornans. For Pia, all it took was a sixth place finish to lock up her third overall Marathon World Cup trophy.
