Magura has launched their new line of Mission Performance brakes, which should be hitting shelves this May. The Mission Performance line is the result of testing and feedback of four of their Performance Faktor categories: weight, heat stability, performance and ergonomics. The first brake in the line is the MT8, and is made from Magura’s all-new injection-molded proprietary compound, Carbotecture. Carbo-huh? According to Magura, Carbotecture is a high concentration of carbon fibers embedded in its thermoplastic matrix, which makes it half the weight of aluminim, yet considerably stronger, extremely resistant to impact and fracture, and gives it very high fatigue strength. Magura claims its tensile strength per density is twice as high as aluminim or magnesium, and six times higher than that of steel or die-cast zinc.

Light and powerful: Magura’s new MT8 brake is designed to be lightweight, powerful and ultra-versatile.

The goal with the MT8 was to create the lightest and most versatile brake in the world, excelling in all factors of riding, and appeal to every rider from cross-country to gravity. In our opinion, the MT8 sets its sights on the Avid’s versatile X0 brake line. The MT8 is the first brake in the Mission Performance range, and is extremely light due to the fully carbon master body. Magura says the front brake with a 6-inch rotor and all the necessary hardware weighs 9.5 ounces, and is built to handle high heat dissipation in the most aggressive riding conditions.
