MT. SAC FALL FAT TIRE CLASSIC
Sunday, November 4, 2007 is the one and only annual chance this year for mountain bikers to experience some of the best trails and topography in and around Southern California. Mt. Sac is part of the same ridgeline that forms Chino Hills, and the riding is as lush and hooked-up as it gets.
It is also the one and only chance that riders have to earn the most awesome mountain bike award made. The 3 pound, 3/8" steel sculptures are works of art and collector's items for sure. This year's first place trophy will be the shape of a duckbill platypus. Second place awards could be a turtle, rabbit, SoBe Lizard or phoenix; and third place either a wolf or a roadrunner. Medallions and ribbons will be handed out to fourth and fifth place finishers.
Mt. Sac's rolling 6 mile course offers two steep climbs and a steep, 1/4 mile downhill. Plus lots of grass, thick foliage and busy singletrack. The event is located at the intersection of the I-10, I-210 and 57N freeways. Follow signs to the Mt. San Antonio College Campus.
Mt. Sac is the final event of the Southern California Triple Crown Mountain Bike Series. The series began with the Idyllwild Spring Challenge earlier in the year, then Rim Nordic XC #3, and then continued with the recent InCycle XC Challenge at Bonelli Park. The best 3 finishes count towards the overall.
One more big change this year is that the race categories have been broken down and the total number increased from 26 to 52. That's twice as many chances to earn that 3 pound duckbill platypus award!
