Lazer and MIPS have collaborated to make a children's helmet with Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) in the Lazer P'Nut and Nut'Z Children's helmets.

The MIPS patent was developed by biomechanics and nuroscience researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Karolinksa Institute in Sweden. These guys explain that the brain is surrounded by a low-friction cushion of cerebrospinal fluid. MIPS imitates the brain's way of protecting itself by giving the helmet its own low-friction layer between the outer shell and the liner. In the event of a crash this layer is claimed to absorb much of the energy created by a blow to the head.

While the MIPS system can be found in other helmets, the P'Nut and the Nut'Z mark the first time this technology has been available for children and will feel for $80. These helmets are distributed by
QBP.
