How do I Upgrade My Fisher G2-Geometry Fork?

Dear Mountain Bike Action: The G2 offset on the Trek Fisher Collection forks is proprietary. Can I purchase an aftermarket fork with a different offset and be pleased with the performance? If I can’t buy a new fork, can I get the existing Cobia fork revalved and modified so that I would have compression and rebound adjustments?
-Morris, missing a modification

Mountain Bike Action: G2 stands for the Genesis 2 geometry that is exclusive on Fisher Collection bikes. To make G2 deliver high-speed stability and low-speed maneuverability, Fisher used their clout to have forks made with custom offsets so their frame’s geometry would deliver on the best-of-both-worlds promise. If you replace any of these forks with an off-the-shelf fork, you will change the personality of your bike. And the new personality might be the type that you don’t invite to your parties. The bad news is that Fisher does not sell their G2 forks as an upgrade. You have to buy the bike to get the fork! You can send your fork to a company like Push Industries, who can tune the compression and rebound and might be able to convert it to an externally adjustable fork.
