This weekend, November 8-9, begins an eight week run of the closest mountain bike racing to San Diego. Vail Lake is just off of Interstate 15 and a rock’s throw north of San Diego County line. It’s easy to get to from Orange Country and Los Angeles as well.
There is a lot new here at Base Camp for the weekend’s activities. First off we have two new trails that will be used this weekend. We also have several HUGE discounts on frames for the racers who win in the raffle. Lastly the recent rash of rain has resulted in unparalleled traction.
I would like to thank all who helped with trail construction. "Tarantula" is a new and super fun connector that basically links "Bridges to Tunnel". It has multiple switchback corners and two rock options, and to top it all of, we added a new eight foot bridge. Over 50 hours worth volunteer time went into the trail. So come out and be the first to try it.
The Industry has got behind all that is happening out at Vail Lake and they are showing it by giving back through RacersAndChasers’ freshest series. First off we have Intense Cycles and Cyco-Path Bike shop that have agreed to give a $500 discount on your choice of a new Intense Tracer frame. Then we have a $1000 off of a new Ellsworth frame courtesy of I.E. Bikes. This is all on top of the complete R7 giveaway bike from Cannondale and Red Hawk Bikes. We are still working on other raffle prizes to be given away at the Series finale. Our final Winter Holiday Shootout event is the first event of 2009 and what better way to start the New Year other than by racing your mountain bike?
Check back to mbaction.com home for the posting on next weekend’s 12 Hours Of Temecula. Below is the info on the Winter Holiday Shootout Series which starts with the Hillbilly Bike Bash this weekend, November 8-9 at Vail Lake in Temecula, CA.
The Fox Super D will share the headline with RacersAndChasers for the first day of competition on Saturday, November 8. Fox Super-D is a hybrid event that incorporates both cross-country and downhill elements. Throw in a free-for-all mass start on the wide hillside at Vail Lake and the Fox Super D promises to be a spectacular sight. Did we mention it all goes off in true Hillbilly fashion with a guy wearing a coonskin cap and belly hanging overalls?
On Sunday, November 9 the action moves over to the Mongoose Hillbilly Downhill course where we have a fast layout mixed with manmade, natural features, jumps and classic SoCal soil. Dress up like your favorite hills dweller and take a shot at best Hillbilly costume while racing for your shot at the STUMP.
Fun & Games: The Redneck Games are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and earn you big prizes like bike frames, forks and helmets. Events like Slingshot Shootout, Bobbin' for Pig's Feet, Toilet Seat Horseshoes and the Redneck Sled pull with your master of ceremonies Mike “Beverly Hillbillies Hollywood” Miranda.

WINTER HOLIDAY SHOOTOUT SERIES PERKS
SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP: We are adding some more structure to the races with awards for podium finishers and all three races will be added up to find the winner of the Winter Holiday Series!
AWARDS: We also have brand new awards for the series and you will be given a number plate to use at all three races. Trust us this number plate is one that will want to keep! (Editor--We know the secret too. It’s made of leather and can double for beef jerky should you bonk during a race.)
SOCAL HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE: We will still be the same Racers and Chasers that you love just with some added benefits. Such as a $5 donation from each entry to the newly formed So Cal High School Interscholastic Cycling League. For more information go to
www.socaldirt.org. It is a great thing for mountain biking in our area and will allow more kids to enjoy the sport that we all love so much!
POST RACE MEALS: As always we will be having a BBQ after the races to feed all of you hungry racers.
THREE RACE DISCOUNT: The registration cost for all three events is $90. Individually, race entry is $35 per event entered and that includes the donating to the High School league.
