When Mountain Bike Action reviewed the Epic 29er almost 3 years ago, we called it the best bike we'd ever ridden. That wasn't good enough for Specialized. They assembled the largest frame production team in Specialized's history to totally re-invent the Epic. After two years in development, it's finally here for us to ride. Check it out here:

Epic 29 World Cup
For 2014, Specialized is also offering a more racey version of the Epic, dubbed the World Cup edition. This is a race-specific frame that's designed with all-out stiffness first and creature comforts second. The ultra large-diameter chainstay delivers tons of lateral stiffness, and is not compatible with front derailleurs. The frame's geometry is also a tick tighter than the standard Epic, with a slightly steeper head angle and higher bottom bracket.
S.W.A.T. (Storage Water And Tools) Technology
The SWAT program is designed to prevent the dilemma that almost every rider will experience: Where to keep all the essentials without resorting to duct taping it to your beautiful bike. SWAT allows seamless integration of spares like tubes and CO2 inflators, as well as multi tools
This small multi-tool sits in a cradle tucked into the shock mount. It features just about any allen wrench you'd ever need.
The SWAT box attatches to a third riv-nut thats mounted just below the other water bottle cage mounts. The box comes stocked with a tube, CO2 inflator, and a custom tire lever. The complete SWAT treatment adds about a pound to the total weight of the bike. It's also completely removable if you're going for a shorter ride and don't need to carry these spares.
