PLATINUM PERFORMANCE'S "OFF-SEASON"
By Todd Booth
Just when you think that the off-season has arrived, it's time for cyclocross! The first race of the SoCal Cyclocross Prestige Series began in Fullerton, CA. Called the Muckenthaler, the opener was a huge success with 250 entries. Platinum rider Gary Douville (Eilite 1/2/3) pulled out an 11th place finish in a huge field. Norba regular Jamie Goldstein (Master 35+ 1/2/3) raced to a 8th place finish. Cal State XC Master #2 Bobby Langin took the Mater 45+ class with a solid 1st place ride. Son Bobby Langin Jr (Cat 3/4) placed 5th in another large class.
Stop #2 was the Redline Cup in Sylmar, CA, and the Platinum team was out to better themselves. "Mr Consistent" Bobby Langin pulled off another Master 45+ 1st to give him a solid lead in the series. Bobby Langin Jr (Cat 3/4) followed in his dad's footsteps and pulled out a 1st of his own! Jamie Goldstein (Master 35+ 1/2/3) was no slouch either and raced to a 3rd place finish. Great job to the Platinum crew. It's early still, and I expect to see more Platinum riders taking advantage in the off season to sharpen their skills both in the cyclocross scene and numerous fall mountain bike events that close out the SoCal season.
Stay tuned to MBA for the guide to SoCal's Fall Mountain Bike Schedule. Also, the Muckenthaler home is an 18 room, Renaissance-style mansion built by Walter and Adella Muckenthaler in 1924 on eight acres located atop a hill in Fullerton. In 1965 it was donated to the city to be used as a cultural center for the public. In 1999 it received designation by the National Register of Historical Places. Most currently it is known as the opener for the SoCal Cyclocross Prestige Series.
