Eric Carter's Hillbilly Bike Bash at Vail Lake was true to its name, with a Flat-bed shuttle truck driven by a wild-man who made every bumping, drifting, moonshine-run up the mountain worth the price if admission. The course was peppered with turns, had a rollimng section, a few ladders and a good double--and benifitted from rains on friday. Racers quickly beat the turns into sand, which formed deep ruts like a supercross track in places. Races loved it though and the event unfoled in a somewhat organized fashion with contestants grabbing early shuttles--to hedge against their start times. The festivities remined wild all the way to the hay-bale podium, where the award ceremony was halted when Eric realized that something was amiss with the results. With darkening skies, Carter reshuffled the results promising to mail the awards to contestants who couldn't wait for the final tally. Hey, it was labled as a Hilbilly event and as such, it delivered in spades. Like every great race, somebody won and the rest got to race downhill and whoop it up on Sunday. Thanks Eric for a great time, we'll all be back next year!
