Elings Park in Santa Barbara hosted the 7th race of the eight race state series. This venue also hosted the 5th race of the series back in June. Since then the course has changed favoring the more technically skilled riders. Without rain and after a summer’s worth of riding, the single track has suffered. Braking ruts, loose dirt and large cracks gave riders a challenge. This course is also known for it's short and numerous back breaking climbs. In the end many of the riders finished with a few pounds of dirt on their jerseys. The battle between team Sho-Air and Platinum Performance for the Coed title is coming to a head. Platinum came into this race with a 15 point lead, and the team’s plan was to leave having earned the maximum number of points. How Team Big Bear factors the coed results is by tallying the results from the top eight riders at each Cal State event. The Platinum team really came together this weekend and we walked away with an impressive list of results: 6 wins and two 2nds to round out the top eight finishers. Todd Booth (Exp 35-39) finally put it together, not to mention capitalizing on a home court advantage, and pulled off his first victory at the end of a very tough season. (Todd runs the Santa Barbara based Platinum Performance Team.) Gary Douville (Exp 30-34) continues to dominate with the fastest expert time of the day. Terry Dahl (Exp 65+) has not lost since last season and continues his winning ways. Ron Takeda (Exp 45-49) won in a very competitive field. Amanda Schaper (Beg Wmn 19-29) continues her undefeated 1st season. Melanie Davis (Beg Wmn 16-under) pulled a 1st place. Doug Ulbach (Exp 40-44) raced to a respectful 2nd place finish. Mike Roberts (Spt 50-54) looked strong in finishing 2nd. Stephanie Rivera (Beg Wmn 45-49) earned a hard fought 2nd place finish on a tough course. Reny Takeda (Beg 10-) placed 2nd. Bob Nisbet (Exp 40-44) took an impressive 3rd place in a very tough class. Adam Poytress (Spt 25-29) placed 3rd. Harrison Davis (Beg 18-) rounded off Platinum’s third 3rd place finish.
