Highland Mountain Bike Park is preparing for the 2nd Annual Highland Claymore Challenge July 15-18th.  The world’s greatest freeriders will descend on Highland to compete on the Dave Smutok designed/built Killecrankie slopestyle course and battle it out for the $10,000 cash purse and bragging rights of the 2009 “Knight of Highland”.

The festivities begin on Wednesday the 15th when the park opens to the public for freeriding.  The slopestyle course will open to both invited pros and “last chance qualifiers” on Thursday. The weekend isn’t just about sick riding, spectators and fans will be entertained by music from IZ-Style; with live acts on the main stage by Paranoid Social Club, Audio Journal and Pete Kilpatrick.  Take a venture through the Eco-Village and demo a bike from Trek and Rocky Mountain, as well as pro autograph signings, BBQ and the Sam Adams Beer Garden, plus much more! Pick up a souvenir Claymore beer mug and t-shirt as well. The festivities don’t end with the podium ceremony, stay well into the night Saturday for the Claymore after party in the Highland Lodge.

The Claymore Challenge slopestyle course under development.

“Last years first ever Claymore was a sneak preview of what could be around the corner for slopestyle action on the East Coast.” Said Mark Hayes, Highland Mountain General Manager, “If you liked last year then you will be floored by what the Highland crew is about to unveil for Claymore Challenge 2009.”

“I’m stoked that the 2009 slopestyle season starts off with the Claymore this year” says Tyler McCaul (GT Bikes), “the crew over at Highland have built a course that us riders look forward to riding every year. Not only does the course have a ton of flow for those of us competing but it also allows us to put on a great show for the spectators.  I can’t wait for Thursday so I can start riding!”

If you can’t make it in person, no worries, our friends at DH Productions will be onsite filming and broadcasting on Freecaster.TV. Check in throughout the day for highlights and results.
