Express your desire to ride trails. We need a large turnout for this public workshop event. Don't assume someone else will do it. Your voice will make a difference.
What: Public Use Management Plan (PUMP) Workshop June 3rd, 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Where: Ridgecrest Intermediate School at 28915 Northbay Rd. in Rancho Palos Verdes. Map is at http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=28915+Northbay+RD,+90275&om=1
Why: This workshop will provide input to the city's consultants (Melendrez and Associates) who will then prepare the Vision Plan for review by the public at a later workshop. The PUMP will eventually determine how open space in Rancho Palos Verdes is used. That includes who will be allowed to use the trails we've been riding for nearly three decades.
The Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association-PV has been involved with the Forrestal Preserve Management Plan for over two years. The Vision Plan will include a trails and management plan for the 450 acres recently purchased as well as the Forrestal Preserve and the other open spaces in Rancho Palos Verdes.
It is critical that cycling be included in this plan. You don't have to be a great speaker; you just need to voice your constructive opinion. Without a large turnout at these meetings, we could end up with only a few token trails.
CORBA PV has worked hard to help keep trails open to bikes. Cyclists have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to help the land conservancy and city repair trails. Because of the work cyclists have done, most of the community is not opposed to bikes on trails. However, there are some who take every opportunity to fervently voice opposition to bikes. Don't let this happen!
The CORBA-PV site has a discussion of the issues and speaking points. Please check it out and plan to attend the workshop on Saturday, June 3. Go to mtbpv.org for more details and the latest information. |
