A total purse of $10,000 was up for grabs at the third annual Red Bull Rampage at the Kolob Reservoir in Virgin, Utah. The rules are simple: Start from the archway on a small plateau 1500 feet up the face of a mountain-filled series of severely chewed up, weather-beaten cliffs, ridges, ravines and transitions. A rider can drop down any way they want, as long as they stay in the view of the judges. Riders are scored on the degree of difficulty/chosen line, control/style, fluidity, and amplitude/air.
Twenty-five points were available in each performance category, for a maximum total of 100 points. Two qualifying runs were used to narrow the best 27 freeriders in the world down to 12 finalists. The top scoring of the next day's two runs was used to determine the big money winner.
Said Gracia after his final run, "This event makes you want to buy a bike and go out riding the next day!" But Cedric, wouldn't it make you want to back flip 50 feet in the air?
