As long as we can remember every fall event at Castaic Lake has been on a brutally tough course under near 90 degree temperature. (Welcome to Southern California...) The 6.95 mile circuit is unrelenting. Not only because its 1417 feet of climbing per lap is steep and technical; it's because there's nowhere to rest. If not climbing, you're descending a sharply switchbacked trail or blazing wide open down bumpy fire road. At Castaic you are either pedaling or holding on for dear life.
