Round five of the Cal State Downhill weekend at Fontana was first kicked off with the finale of the ODI Grips Summer Cross Country Series. As we've seen in the past--Klaassen Van Oorschot, Juarez, Florit, Leduc, Carter, etc.--Southridge's demanding courses continue to groom the hotshots. The latest being 17-year old downhiller Daniel Umland and 26-year old cross-country rider Ty Kady. Kady, a former Suzuki Factory-supported motocrosser, shot out of nowhere this year. As a sport mountain biker Ty was the man to beat at the start of the year. After winning Sea Otter, Ty moved up to Expert and has been untouchable ever since.
Upgrading from Junior Expert, Umland is spending his first year in the Pro ranks. The Cal State at Southridge is his biggest win to date. Daniel is ironically sponsored by the promoter's ODI-Southridge shop team.
