Hey Mountain Bike Action: Longtime reader, first-time writer. Planning a nine-day trip to Colorado this summer from Wisconsin. Thinking of Fruita, Crested Butte and Telluride areas. Would these be good choices? Any suggestions on a good white water rafting?
-Bruce, who has had enough flatland riding.
A: Bruce, you are either joking about being a long-time Mountain Bike Action reader or you missed the October 2010 issue. We had a massive story on Crested Butte and Mount Crested Butte that is a great introduction to the place. Do yourself a favor and order up a back issue by calling (800) 767-0345. Even if you don’t pop for the back issue, you’ll find that Crested Butte has a great visitor center and there are trail maps available all over the city. Over The Edge Sports, (970) 858-7220, is the shop that put Fruita on the map and is now owned by all-mountain sensation Ross Schnell. They will get you pointed in the right direction while in Fruita. Telluride is a beautiful place but it has limited trails compared to your other two destinations. It is also pretty far off the beaten path. A raft trip? Not our area of expertise, but you will see tons of rafting places on your drive around Crested Butte and Fruita.
