World Cup DH/4X 5 of 7

Frustrated by his World championship crash near the finish in Val Di Sole, Italy last month, Sam Hill showed yesterday that he's not lost his drive. Since his win in Maribor in May, the double World Champion (2006 and 2007) hasn't been on the top step of an international podium. It all changed on this challenging track in Bromont, Canada. The rider from Perth got his revenge by winning his ninth World Cup victory. His result regained the World Cup Leader's Jersey he had to hand over to Greg Minnaar last week. South African Minnaar finished second just ahead of Santa Cruz Syndicate teammate Steve Peat. The end of season should be exciting. With 1020 points Sam Hill has only a 46 points advantage over Minnaar with two rounds left to go.

We also expect a hard battle during the last two races for the women’s overall standings. Rachel Atherton won the third victory of the season at Bromont in Quebec, but Sabrina Jonnier is not far behind. Only 83 points now separate the two rivals.

It's becoming impossible to stop him! After Maribor and Mont-Sainte-Anne, the Spanish rider Alvarez Luca added Bromont to his list of victories. Nobody even knew who Alverez was at the end of the last season; His best achievement was a 5th place in the 2007 World Championships. Now less than a year later Alvares IS the World Champion and looks to be close to his first overall World Cup victory. In the final, he finished in front of Cedric Gracia, while the two German riders Guido Tschugg and Johanes Fischbach finished 3rd and 4th. Overall, Alvarez de Lara leads with 860 points while Guido Tschugg has 750 points. Cedric Gracia, third with 550 points, no longer seems capable of winning the World Cup Crystal Globe.

In the women’s race, the Dutch rider Anneke Beerten took advantage of a clear field and the absence of World Champion Melissa Buhl to win her third victory this season. She finished ahead of Anita Molcik and her MS Intense teammate Mio Suemasa to almost secure her second World Cup overall victory. Anita Molcik is the only one who can still deprive the Dutch woman. Molcik has to win the next two rounds while Beerten only needs 30 points… Almost a formality for her!

The next exciting round will be held in Canberra, Australia at the end of August.
