BLUE RIBBON COALITION SHOWS HOW IT'S DONE

R. Cunningham

Like mountain bikers, motorized off-road recreationists are being systematically squeezed out of their traditional riding areas by civil lawsuits filed by misguided environmental organizations (read "zealots"). Without well managed legal places to play, we all suffer the consequences of illegal or unauthorized off road use. OHV groups have been losing popular riding areas like dogs shed hair to hostile civil legislation, so, led by the BRC, they have hired legal council and taken defensive action. Without a well-funded and swift-acting legal defense strategy, OHV users and mountain bikers alike will lose riding opportunities in the face of this new and powerful anti access weapon. You may not agree that motorized off road riders can be nondestructive users (most are), but you should still read the story on the BRC site.

Read about the Clear Creek Management Area near Hollister, CA

It's a wakeup call for mountain bikers and an example of how it's done. You can learn how to effectively fight for trail access against organizations that won't share even the smallest corner of the sand box. If off-roaders are booted out, we'll certainly be next in line.
