BIG BEAR STILL OPEN FOR RACING!

Following is a press release from Team Big Bear's Patrick Follett:

Although the U.S. Forestry Service is closing the San Bernardino National Forest due to extreme fire danger, we have been assured that the Fall Classic, final round of the Cal State Series can take place as scheduled for October 11,12,&13. I will have to get further clarification if riders can practice the XC and Super D Thursday and Friday of next week. However, the chairlift will be open next Friday (Oct. 11) for DH and Super D practice from 1-4 p.m.
Snow Summit will be open for limited Sky Chair operation this weekend. For downhillers, they will be restricted to riding trails ON the Resort. As for DH and XC riders, you will be asked to refrain from riding trails like "Fallline", Grandview Loop, and others that are not in Snow Summit's permit Area. They have not printed this but I am sure if riders do not cooperate, passes will be revoked or even worse, they will suspend chairlift operations. PLEASE COOPERATE!
As best as I can interpret the press release from the USFS, they are closing gates to all USFS maintained dirt roads, which severely limits off-road riding in the valley. So those of you planning to come up this weekend and practice the Fall Classic XC, or ride Grout Bay, Holcomb Valley or even the 9 mile loop will have to refrain from doing so.
As soon as the fire danger subsides the USFS will reopen the San Bernardino National Forest for general use. Check the MBA site for updates. Pray for rain!
