BEST SHOP RIDES IN GEORGIA--SEPT 24



1. CYCLE SOUTH
Call for the current evening, weekday and weekend ride schedule. Rides include the Cohuttas, Aska Trails and north mountains. Racers usually show so plan on a hard pace. The Cohuttas has 95000 acres of riding. Town: Blue Ridge. Contact: (706) 632-3533.

2. CARTECAY BIKE SHOP
Voted the number one ride spot in the nation, the Appalachian Mountains offer 100 miles of trail and 8000 feet of climbing. Show 9 a.m. Wednesday or Sunday and enjoy an up to four hours epic. Town: Ellijay. Contact: (706) 635-2453; www.cartecaybikes.com.

3. WOODY'S MOUNTAIN BIKES
Think you can handle a 1500 mile gain in the first three miles? If you're up to it, join this shop's 7:30 a.m. Saturday ride up Trey Mountain. The 6 p.m. Tuesday ride hits the favorite local spots. Town: Helen. Contact: (706) 878-3715.

4. BOB'S CYCLE SHOP
Located at the trailhead, Bob's is the official place to hang out if you're riding the Silver Comet Trail. The Coosa Valley Cycling Association ride planner lists this and many other statewide rides. Town: Rome. Contact: (706) 291-1501; www.cvca.org.

5. BIKE TOWN USA
Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. rides at the Agricultural Center or Chicoppee Woods. The rides have moderate to hard climbs and the pace is intermediate. Six to 15 riders. Call first to confirm the ride. Town: Gainesville. Contact: (770) 532-7090; www.bike-townusa.com.

6. ADVENTURE CYCLE & SPORT
On Tuesday nights during the winter show up with a bike, towel and trainer and hammer an indoor session with 20 others. The shop will also direct people and provide maps to the best Chicoppee Woods rids. Town: Oakwood. Contact: (770) 534-1190; www.adventurecycles.com.

7. HAPPY TRAILS OUTDOOR COMPANY
Big weekend trips and morning and evening rides during the week. The rides are led by the shop race team and the group of up to 20 splits up to accommodate all skill levels. Town: Woodstock. Contact: (770) 592-0206; www.happytrailsbikeshop.com.

8. CYCLEWORKS
The nearby park trail is highly technical and includes lots of drops, off-chambers and rolling climbs. Meeting time is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the shop. This is a new ride with five riders. Town: Roswell. Contact: (770) 993-2626; www.cycleworksbicycles.com.

9. CYCLEWORKS
Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Wednesday rides. Includes casual rides around Berkeley Lake and the 30 mile loop at South Gwinnett County. Town: Duluth. Contact: (770) 476-4949; www.cycleworksbicycles.com.

10. FREE FLITE BICYCLES
After closing the shop runs Monday and Friday rides during the summer. Call for winter ride schedule. Blankets Creek is a five mile loop of wooded singletrack with fast and tight, busy sections. Town: Marietta. Contact: (770) 422-5237; www.freeflite.com.

11. CYCLEWORKS
A fun, easy ride that heads right out the shop door and on a 12 mile course next to the Chattahoochee River. The rides on a paved bike lane and some riders mount slicks on their bikes. Town: Marietta Contact: (770) 509-9494; www.cycleworksbicycles.com.

12. SORBA
This club schedules rides weekend, weekday evening and full moon rides throughout the state. The best riding is at Mountain Town Creek, Bull Mountain and Jake Mountain. Rides also held at Sumter in South Carolina. Town: Atlanta. Contact: (770) 718-3674; www.sorba.org.

13. ATLANTA PRO BIKE
Sunday rides meet 7 a.m. at the shop and ride Yellow River or Chicoppee Woods. Trips to Ellijay and Dalonega are also run. During the winter 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday spinning classes at the store: Town: Atlanta. Contact: (404) 874-1214; www.atlantaprobicycle.com.

14. URBAN ASSAULT
Meet 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the shop and ride to meet up with 24 to 36 other riders and Piedmont Park. The riding concentrates around mid and downtown. Afterwards meet at The Local in Ponce de' Leon. Town: Atlanta. Contact: (404) 874-1214; www.atlantaprobicycle.com.

15. BICYCLE OUTFITTERS
Saturday, 7 a.m. at-the-shop meets and carpool to the Clinton Nature Preserve. The singletrack cuts through the pines, is rooty, rocky and has a technical, 4-1/2 minute climb. Town: Douglasville. Contact: (770) 577-6200; www.ridemybikes.com.

16. PERPETUAL MOTION BICYCLES
Second and fourth, 10 a.m. Saturday and 6:30 p.m. Thursday rides. Riders bike to the trails from the shop. The pack of up to 35 riders cycle the Airport and Senoyah trails. Town: Carrollton. Contact: (770) 834-3278; www.perpetualmotionbikes.com.

17. BIKE CENTER
Late Sunday morning rides at Dauset Trails, Bull Mountain, Chicoppee Woods, Windridge and Camp Thunder. The later is the shop favorite with 1300 feet of total climbing and water bar-loaded descents. Town: Stockbridge. Contact: (770) 389-8088; www.bikecenterusa.com.

18. ROAD AND TRAIL CYCLERY
The 6-1/2 miles Chain Buster Trail starts right out the door and on land owned by the shop. The single and double track is very technical and includes a one mile climb. Rides happen on a daily bases. Town: Oxford. Contact: (770) 787-8193; www.rtcyclery.com.

19. AT THE HUB
Meet at Hawkes Creek Farm for the 7:30 p.m. Thursday ride. The group keeps a hard pace while they reel off numerous laps. The singletrack is wooded, rolling, tight and technical. Town: Athens. Contact: (706) 355-3989; www.hubbikes.com.

20. SUNSHINE CYCLES
Every Sunday the Winter Mountain Bike League's giant training ride heads out the front door and onto singletrack and dirt roads. Prime points and prizes offered. Also the site of a four day adventure epic. Town: Athens. Contact: (706) 548-6088; www.sunshinecycles.com.

21. DIXON'S BICYCLING CENTER
Thursday night rides and announced, weekday summer rides. If there's no race on the weekend the shop plans special trips that travel statewide to the hottest ride spots. Group size can be up to 25 riders. Town: Athens. Contact: (706) 549-2453; www.gobike1.com.

22. THE BICYCLE LINK
Looking for a hammerfest that cycles from the shop to the best local trails? If so show Thursday night at the shop. Expect 10 to 15 riders. Special weekend trips to statewide hot spots also scheduled. Town: Buckhead. Contact: (404) 233-4103; www.bicyclelink.net.

23. URBAN NIGHT
The 8 p.m. Wednesday ride starts at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. Join 10 to 40 riders as they hit the coolest stair cases and retaining walls midtown, downtown and at the Tech Campus. Town: Buckhead. Contact: (404) 233-4103; www.bicyclelink.net.

24. ANDY JORDAN'S BICYCLE WAREHOUSE
On the second Saturday of June there's a ride with 500 people along the Savannah River and Augusta Canal. Year 'round the shop hosts Sunday morning or afternoon rides. Or come in any day for great coffee. Town: Augusta. Contact: (706) 724-6777; www.andyjordans.com.

25. CHAIN REACTION BICYCLES
Weekly rides listed on the website. Trips are usually on Thursday night and weekends. Ride size is up to 30 and the pace is hard, but friendly. Out of state trips are included in the schedule. Town: Augusta. Contact: (706) 855-2024; www.cycleaugusta.com.

26. BICYCLES UNLIMITED
Log-on for the latest ride schedule. Over the winter 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday rides at numerous locations. Wednesday is a recreational ride on the paved multi-use trails. Town: Peachtree City. Contact: (770) 486-9252; www.bicyclesunl.com.

27. GOLDEN'S BICYCLE SHOP
Daylight savings rides that meet at the Boys Scott Camp 2 p.m. Sunday. The recreational ride with 10 to 25 riders can last 'till dark. Half of the seven mile loop is rolling trail with one grinding climb. Town: La Grange. Contact: (706) 884-2420.

28. OCONEE OUTFITTERS
Wednesday night and 9:00 a.m. Sunday rides that usually meet at Bartram State Forest. (Daily evening rides during daylight savings.) The singletrack at Bartram is for advanced riders. Town: Milledgeville. Contact: (478) 452-3890; www.oconeeoutfitters.com.

29. BIKE TECH
The first Tuesday of the month there's a meet at the Macon Recreation Center. The singletrack rolls through the woods. For the weekend rides the shop will drive to numerous trails within an hour radius. Town: Macon. Contact: (478) 741-8356; www.biketechmacon.com.

30. ARNOLD BICYCLES
Home base for the Lone Wolf Social Club. They're responsible for implementing a citywide rails to trails program and River Walk path. Twenty to 100 riders show at the every other weekend rides. Nearest town: Columbus. Contact: (706) 568-1806; www.arnoldbicycle.com.

31. KINNUCAN ENTERPRISES
A 10 mile loop near the Chattahoochee River includes hills, drop-offs, singletrack, rocks and north shore log rides. The rides are 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Meet at the Phoenix City Trails. Town: Columbus. Contact: (706) 321-9797.

32. MIKE'S BIKES
Weekend morning and weekday evening rides. Meet the others at the shop or the trailhead. The Trail of Tears and it's north shore obstacles are a favorite. The rides are led by Jekyll-mounted Teresa Fox. Town: Columbus. Contact: (706) 569-1875

33. THE BIKE SHOP
Thursday, 6 p.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday rides. The group of five cycles across town or through the GSU campus to the best local trails. Occasional trips to Magnolia Springs or George L. Smith parks. Town: Statesboro. Contact: (912) 871-6493; www.thebikeshop.net.

34. THE BICYCLE LINK
The third Sunday of every month riders meet 9 a.m. at the shop. Then head over to Tom Tripplett Park for a friendly, recreational ride. This is a very scenic, historic town that's worth visiting. Town: Savannah. Contact: (912) 355-4771; www.bicyclelinksav.com.

35. DOWNTOWN BICYCLE LINK
This shop meets up with the suburb shop's riders at the park. The packed singletrack cuts through the woods and has a few logs obstacles. Twister Pro tires and hardtails are the fav' local setup. Town: Savannah. Contact: (912) 233-9401; www.bicyclelinksav.com.

36. QUALITY BIKE
Meet at the park 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The shop also hosts races on the Top Tripplett's tight, technical course. Scalpel-mounted Sean Coleman is the rider to beat. Town: Savannah. Contact: (912) 692-1005; www.qualitybikeshop.com.

37. URBAN ASSAULT
Tuesday and Friday, 6:30 p.m. rides that meet at the shop or at Vinnie's. Then enjoy hours of the best drops, jumps, ledges and stairs. Ride 'till 11:00 and then stuff yourself full of pizza. Town: Savannah. Contact: (912) 692-1005; www.qualitybikeshop.com.

38. CYCLEWORLD BIKES AND ACCESSORIES
Weekend morning, out of town meets and local weekend afternoon rides. Night rides are usually Tuesday and Thursday. Gather at the shop and ride through the neighborhood's uban empire on to local trails. Town: Albany. Contact: (229) 435-1678.

39. GRIFFIN BIKE
Meet at the shop 8 a.m. Sunday. The rides can be at Ft. Clinch, Hanna Park, North Carolina, Ocola or Tom Triplett park. Call the shop any time for info on the best local trails. Town: Brunswick. Contact: (912) 264-0621; www.griffinbike&mower.com.

40. BENJY'S BIKE SHOP
The Wednesday or Sunday rides meet 7:30 a.m. at the shop. They cross over into Florida and ride Ft. Clinch or Hanna Park. The trails wind through the trees and overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Town: St. Simmons Island. Contact: (912) 638-6766.

41. TURN 2 BICYCLE
This shop hosts weekend rides at Fernadina Beach, Hanna Park, the Olympic course at Conyers or other of the hottest trails in the state. A group of 10 meet at the shop and carpool from there. Town: Kingsland. Contact: (912) 576-9696.
