Ask Mountain Bike Action: How do I stop these kneepads from migrating South?

Q: Purchased my first pair of knee guards: Alpinestars Alps Kevlar. I've ridden in them 4 times now and they seem to slip a lot. I have to readjust them at least a couple of times while riding. My rides consist of a lot of up and down pedaling. I know i have the right size (L/XL) because i measured according to Alpinestars size chart. What does the Wrecking Crew use on their knees for all-day pedaling extravaganzas? Any recommendations?

A: Pads slipping can be a huge annoyance. Our personal experience is that sizing charts for pretty much all protective gear companies will steer you a size big. For your next set, try going with a size smaller. It might be worth buying them from a shop where you can try them on first, as tight pads can be uncomfortable. (That’s the tradeoff.)
Since it sounds like you’re already stuck with these ones. You could try the 661 Padlock, which is specifically designed for this purpose. It works reasonably well, but will end up costing a good chunk of what new pads would run.
