Sean Berkey's morning commutes on Rover's Run, a two-mile stretch of trail along the South Fork Campbell Creek in North Bicentennial Park in Anchorage, Alaska, are usually a time to clear his head and get ready for the day ahead. That was not the case on his Tuesday June 16th commute when Sean was attacked by a bear. The site was close to where a severe bear mauling of a teenage bicyclist occurred in 2008.
Sean put his bike between the
himself and the bear but not before the critter had inflicted some
damage. Sean was able to ride to the Alaska Native Medical Center for
treatment of cuts and a possible bite. Mountain bikers in Alaska are a
tough bunch.
