Looking to follow up lasts year's remarkable performance, the U.S. National Team managed to claim two top ten finishes at the 2008 Cyclocross World Championships. The showdown took place in Treviso, Italy.

Rachel Lloyd (Fairfax, CA) turned in the best performance with a ninth place effort in the elite women's contest. Lloyd finished 1 minute, 23 seconds off the pace of four-time winner Hanka Kupfernagel (Ger).

U.S. Cyclocross Champ Katie Compton landed in Treviso with a reoccurring muscle injury that was flaring up at the most inopportune moment. Poor Katie lasted only one lap before pulling out in pain.

Luke Keough (Sandwich, MA) recorded the other top ten finish of the weekend with a 10th place ride in the junior men's race. Keough finished 1:12 back from Arnaud Juffroy (Fra).

In the elite men's contest, Jonathan Page (Northfield, NH) placed 23rd and top American in 23rd, and only 41 seconds back from winner Lars Boom (Ned).

U.S. Short Track Champion Ryan Trebon (Kona-Yourkey) withdrew 5 days earlier. Trebon has nursed nagging injuries throughout the 2007 race season, which culminated in the spectacular head-on crash at the U.S. Cyclocross National Championships one month ago. Trebon has simply missed too much training to make a serious bid for a top placing in Italy.

Jamie Driscoll (Jericho, VT) took 34th in the U23 contest, 3:46 behind winner Niels Albert (Bel).
