No matter how hot it gets down below, it's certain to be cooler, sweeter and funner up in Running Springs. Ten miles below Big Bear's Snow Summit and straight across from the slopes of Snow Valley sits the Rim Nordic Ski Area. There you will always find a place in the shade--at registration, in the pits and out on the course. Rim Nordic's technical layout slice through dense woods and include heavenly singletrack. Don't let the minimum of 500' of elevation gain per lap fool you. The roller coaster circuit of serpentine, switchbacked descents and steep climbs is guaranteed to give your legs a major workout. The dirt is the closest consistency to loam of anywhere in SoCal.
The constantly revised, eight to ten mile loops are voted by many as the best cross-country courses in Southern California. Base elevation is 6775'. The pro/expert men and women run
up to a 4 lap race distance. Fifty-plus experts, single speed and sports do 2 circuits, while beginners go 1 round.
New for 2007 is that the ultra cool, custom crafted Rim Nordic awards will go 5 deep in every category with 10 or more entries. Overall XC Series and SoCal Mt Stage Race awards will also be awarded to the top 5 finishers in each category.
Another perk for elite riders is the relaxed start time. Expert women race at 11:00 a.m., and the pro, semipro and expert men leave the line at 11:30 a.m.
There is also a popular shop/team award. Each team must declare its riders at the beginning of the season. All team members must wear consistent team kits. Total points are scored for the top 8 team members using a tiered payout scale based on the difficulty of the each riders race category.
Rim Nordic also offers a $25 VIP card that gives the rider special sign-up privilege, a custom plastic number plate with the riders name and permanent race number, special VIP t-shirt, 20% off bike accessories at the Rim Nordic shop, free Clif products at each race, plus much more.
The pro's/semipro's/experts also compete against each other for the 5 fastest times of the day. Cash prizes of $100, $75, $60, $50 and $40 are paid out to the top five.
The pro/expert women will also receive $50, $40 and $35 for the three fastest times of the day. (With a minimum of 6 participants.)
Hope to see you there!
