Desert Sports is again holding the Mas O Menos 100 mountain bike race and festival on Presidents Day weekend, February 16-18, 2006. The Chihuahuan Desert offers miles of the finest singletrack in Texas and warm weather in the winter. Challenging topography keeps you revved up with big sky vistas around every corner.
The Mas O Menos 100 takes place at the home of the World Championship Chili Cook-Off at the Chili Appreciation Society International site. CASI is located four miles west of Terlingua and eight miles east of Liajitas Resort.
Its namesake 100k event is two laps of a 31 mile circuit. Also included in the program is a one lap race, as well as an 18.6 mile, 30k circuit that bypasses the feared, 1100 foot in five miles Tres Cuevas climb. There is also a free Kids' Kup for 2- to 14-year-olds.
Title sponsor Starlight Theater Bar and Restaurant will be setting up the Mas O Menos Canteen once again. They will be serving great food and beer starting on Friday afternoon and continuing until Saturday evening. Folks will be able to buy food as they go or buy a $25 Meal Ticket which will admit them to the Friday Pasta Feed, the Saturday Racers' Breakfast and the Saturday Night Celebratory Fajitas Fest. Every one is an all-you-can-eat buffet!
In 2005 Jason Sager and Leslie Reuter bested 350 other competitors. Jason's time to beat is 3:56:25, Leslie's is 5:11:00.
