The Transrockies Challenge is the North America version of the hugely successful Transalps in Europe. It's a seven day race that begins in Fernie, climbs and descends back and forth over the Continental Divide, and concludes 372.8 miles later in Canmore. The race had to be re-routed around Crowsnest Pass due to the wildfire conditions. There's 39370 feet of vertical climbing. Open, Open Women, Coed and Masters classes are held.
Total Prize money comes to $14,500. Riders must race in teams of two and must stay within two minutes of each other throughout the course. Each night the riders sleep in tent villages that are put up between each stage. In all, 150 riders braved the flames.
Twenty-four hour National Champion Christina Begy and 24 Hours of Adrenalin Champion Louise Kobin teamed for the Open Women win. They respectively hail from Denver, CO and Los Gatos, CA. Atlanta, GA's coed team of Marvin and Karen Masson placed second.
