The final Southland cross-country and downhill of the year at Fontana was brutally cold and windy. In the wake of an overnight storm that covered Baldy in snow was a 40 degree wind chill that had all of the lowland LA boys trying to remember where they keep the warmers and booties. Those who "dared" to venture outside were rewarded with absolutely perfect damp dirt, incredible traction and not a hint of mud. (It has to rain for a few days solid to make mud in SoCal.)

That's Southridge Racing Club promoter and Southridge Cycling owner Don Jackson demonstrating the perfect Mammoth Kamikaze attack position. Master aged Don placed second in the highly competitive open division. He's on the same Turner DHR set up with Kenda Blue Groove front and Nevegal rear tires, SRAM groupo, Rock Shox Suspension and Azonic hardware that ODI-Southridge youngster Daniel Umland used to decimate the downhill event reported on in here. A race promoter who still races is a good thing.
