Brian Lopes will be hard to beat at the Madonna Inn.
The Jeep King of the Mountain World Professional Championships continues this weekend in San Luis Obispo, CA. Although Jill Kintner of Seattle, WA and Michael Prokop of the Czech Republic captured titles at the first race of the season at The Canyons in Park City, UT, they will be missing in action this weekend. That's because both will be in China competing in the International BMX World Cup in order to qualify for the Olympics. That opens the door for Melissa Buhl of Chandler, AZ and Anneke Beerten of The Netherlands on the women's side to take the points lead.
A host of Californians will be battling on their home turf to position themselves for the
crown on the men's side. The top contenders include Brian Lopes of Laguna Beach, Cody
Warren of Alpine and Temecula's Eric Carter and Rich Houseman.
Australian Jared Graves, who placed second at Park City after giving Prokop a run for the
money, will also be competing the BMX World Cup.
The athletes at San Luis Obispo's Madonna Inn will be competing for a share of the Series'
$100,000 cash purse and the keys to a new 2008 Jeep Liberty, as well as valuable points
toward the World Professional Championship.
The race from San Luis Obispo will be televised on September 23 from 5-6 p.m. (EST) on CBS Sports.
