Eight athletes who were voted into the competition on the Hell Ride website, pitted themselves against two infamous marathon racers (Mark Weir and Rachel Lloyd) in a 66-mile race held in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Downieville, California. The Hell Ride earns its name with much of the route on rugged singletrack, and with over 41,000 feet of climbing. The premise: everyone on equal bikes (Santa Cruz Nomads)give the eight challengers a; give the eight contestants a one hour head start; and then let loose the hounds for an all-day chase through the forest. If the contestants were overtaken by the hounds (Mark Weir and Rachel Lloyd), they lost the chance to win a new Nomad. Two prevailed to win the bikes: Kurt Adams, and Erin Moeschler. Four out of eight contestants finished.
