Geoff Kabush will be heading off to represent Canada at the Olympics and is currently sitting third in the World Cup series after back-to-back podiums in Canada. This will be the five-time Canadian National Champion’s second trip to the Olympics (he finished ninth in the 2000 Sydney games). These are spy shots furnished by Maxxis, Geoff's tire sponsor, of the Litespeed Ocoee hardtail that he will be contesting in Beijing.
We spoke with Litespeed insiders about the frame and learned that Geoff will be racing a fairly stock Ocoee--Litespeed's standard hardtail race bike, but with a bit racier geometry. Geoff is well over six feet tall, so it is a small miracle his 3/2.5-alloy, butted-titanium-framed bike weighs less than 20 pounds. The Ocoee frame has manipulated tubes throughout, with a diamond shaped top tube, a downtube that is flared to beef up the bottom bracket area, and "Quad Tech" seat and chainstays, which are rectangular shaped to add rigidity without eating into the rear triangle's tire and chainring clearances. Geoff used this racing season to dial in his frame geometry--and the Olympic Litespeed represents the culmination of all that knowledge. We wish Geoff, Litespeed, Maxxis and the rest of the Kabush machine good luck in China.
