SRAM Mystery Disc Brake Photographed at Crankworx

(8/14/2009)
Photos by John Ker
John Ker took some pictures of a very lightweight disc brake in the SRAM pits while he was trying to escape the rain at Crankworx.  The elongated caliper hints at a four-piston arrangement, although this cannot be confirmed yet. Tape covers the logo area of the brake lever. A call placed to SRAM officials revealed only one word: "BlackBox."  The official statement about the pro-racer-only prototype was: "We can't tell you any more than that--you just got lucky and noticed something we are working on." We'll keep you updated.
The lever is similar to the shortened version of Avid's Elixir that we rode at the XX launch. John Ker photo
