Single-Speed legend John "Fuzzy" Mylne trounced all comers at the Mount San Antonio College Fat Tire Classic. The closest competition was geared semipro Brad Stephenson, who battled with the "Bearded One" for most of the four laps before conceding to second, taking the semipro win, while Fuzzy won the pro class. Unusual Southern California rains made racing interesting for all comers.
It rained right up to the start. Sending a huge group of holeshot hungry elite riders into a wet, half-paved and half-mud, first turn proved exciting.
After miles of wide open rolling hills and one grinding climb, it was single speed legend John Fuzzy Mylne with a huge lead!
First geared: Mylne’s battled back and forth with Sho-Air teammate Brad Stephenson (shown) the entire 4 laps. Fuzzy won the Pro’s, Brad took the semipro class.

Fritz White (Rage-Titus), son of White Bros. founder Dan, placed 2nd Expert 19-26 aboard a cyclocross bike. After a lap the course packed down and flowed.
Second place woman expert Aileen Griffroen on the brutal switchback climb up from the football stadium. Look at the perfect dirt.
Finally!: After 16 years of running the show, race director Ben Eisley handed the reins over to SC Velo and experienced the course everyone raves about.
ESI Grip’s Gary Stewart speeds under a canopy of trees. Gary is a regular on the SoCal circuit, and it’s nice to see a business owner stay so close to the roots.
Each lap culminates with this burner of a climb up out of the back valley. The Mt. Sac course only gets used once per year.
Fast cook: Niner set up shop to take care of its rapidly growing 29’er clientelle. After winning her class, Sho-Air’s Heidi Volpe spent the afternoon flipping burgers.
