Interbike Day 2: Cannondale's "Special Op's" introduction reveals new fork

Cannondale arranged for MBA and a select group of other journalists to get a sneak look at their new Simon suspension strut on Tuesday morning of the Dirt Demo. The journalists were brought like military prisoners in the darkened rear of a military truck to a secret warehouse location, somewhere near Bootleg Canyon. There, Cannondale staff, all dressed in white jumpsuits, unveiled what that they claimed will revolutionize mountain bike suspension. What is it? It's a computer-controlled Lefty, called the Simon. It can be adjusted on the fly, while riding. One does this with a miniature thumb-activated joystick on the left side of the handlebar, to the right of the brake and shifter pod. The Simon can also respond to the trail automatically, by sensing the smallest changes in the terrain, thanks to a super-sensitive accelerometer combined with a small high-speed computer. Together they can instantly adjust the reaction of the front suspension system to suit the situation by changing the internal workings of the fork in times best measured in microseconds. Cannondale expects to utilize the system in rear suspension later.
